The BC Wine Industry Recognition Awards are the foremost honour for exemplary support of the British Columbia wine industry.

BC Wine Institute Industry Recognition Award

The BC Wine Institute Industry Recognition Award (established 2013) honours an individual, business or organization (non-winery contributor) for support of the BC wine industry and BC VQA Wine through media, research, policy, regulation, education, advocacy or other means significantly contributing to the overall strength and long-term viability of the industry. 

BC Wine Institute Award of Distinction

The BC Wine Institute Award of Distinction (established 2016) recognizes a winery representative for their outstanding leadership, commitment and passion for the advancement of the British Columbia wine industry.

Nomination and Selection Process

The Awards are open to all organizations, businesses and individuals in the BC grape wine industry, with the Award of Distinction for winery representatives and the Industry Recognition Award for non-winery contributors.

Individual self-nomination is not accepted; however, organizations or businesses may apply directly. 

Individual Board members and employees of the BCWI are not eligible for the Award of Distinction.

The judging committee is comprised of the BC Wine Institute Board of Directors. Judges are expected to declare any conflicts of interest.

2016 BC Wine Institute Industry Recognition Award - John Schreiner (Media)

BC’s most prolific wine writer and authority on BC Wines.The award was presented in gratitude of his many years of outstanding contribution to the British Columbia wine industry. 

2016 BC Wine Institute Award of Distinction - Tony Stewart (Industry Leader)

CEO of Quails’ Gate Winery, in recognition of Tony's outstanding leadership, commitment and passion for the advancement of the British Columbia wine industry. “It's not the differences that define us, it's the common goals that unite us,” said Tony during his acceptance speech.

2015 BC Wine Institute Industry Recognition Award - Jurgen Gothe (Media)

Renowned wine and food journalist Jurgen Gothe who passed away in April 2015 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

“Jurgen had a huge impact on the BC Wine Industry,” noted BC Wine Institute President Miles Prodan. “Through both Disc Drive and his columns, he made wine accessible and was a champion of BC wines from the industry’s infancy. He was a true storyteller and gave listeners and readers a glimpse into more than just the wines by introducing them to the people behind the bottle as well. He will be truly missed.”

2014 BC Wine Institute Industry Recognition Award - Senator Ross Fitzpatick (Industry Pioneer) 

“The Senator exemplifies the intent of the award, which was created to recognize those who have helped to develop the wine industry in our province,” says BC Wine Institute Chair, Josie Tyabji who presented Fitzpatrick with the award at the Canadian Wine Industry dinner at CedarCreek Estate Winery. “His efforts and leadership have helped shape the industry as we know it today.”

2013 BC Wine Institute Industry Recognition Award - MP Dan Albas and MP Ron Cannan (Industry Champions)

“The Industry Recognition Award allows us to acknowledge those who celebrate the BC Wine Industry and thank them for their support of BC VQA Wines,” notes BCWI Executive Director Miles Prodan. “We felt it very fitting that MPs Albas and Cannan received the award this year for their tireless work on Bill C-311. The industry truly appreciates their efforts, and this is one way for us to show our gratitude.”
